LIBERATION DAY 2020 in LOCKDOWN

The Parish Connétables have announced plans for exhibitions across the island later in the year.

Parishioners are being invited to submit photographs of their home and street in lockdown and also decorated for Liberation 75 – 2020.

Chairman of the Comité des Connétables, Deidre Mezbourian, explained – QUOTE

Parish plans, and those of the Island, to mark Liberation 75 – 2020 may have been cancelled but many of my parishioners are still entering into the spirit of celebration and have decorated their homes with flags and bunting.

I didn't want to see this wasted and have suggested to my fellow Connétables that each Parish could put on an exhibition later in the year when life gets back to normal.

We're aware there are a number of other organisations also collecting photographs of this period in our island's life and this is not intended to detract from those initiatives. But it will be wonderful for each Parish to have its own record of these weeks in lockdown and also the way Liberation 75 is celebrated.

I'm delighted that my fellow Connétables are supportive of this proposal as an additional way to mark Liberation 75.

Parishioners are invited to send in photographs of Liberation 75, showing homes decorated for the occasion and street parties (at a social distance) and of 'lockdown'.

The photographs will be displayed at the Parish Hall for all to view following the lifting of COVID-19 movement restrictions.

The Connétables very much hope that all who now regard Jersey as their home will seek to preserve the special status of Liberation Day and will celebrate the occasion.

I thought it important to write to all Parishioners to reassure

you that both myself and the Parish Hall staff are here to

support you all during the Coronavirus outbreak, and to

assist with the challenges that may arise.

The Parish Hall will continue to operate but I would ask Parishioners to contact us by telephone or eMail, rather than visiting in person, in order to limit the potential to spread the virus. The office doors will remain closed from Monday 23rd March 2020 for the foreseeable future.

We have a group of volunteers who will assist with shopping, collection of prescriptions, a call to an elderly friend or relative, and other tasks. If you are unable to leave your home and do not have family or friends who can assist please contact us.

Always follow the latest Coronavirus advice from the Government of Jersey which will be released via the media. Alternatively you can obtain the latest advice on-line at gov.je/coronavirus

If you are told you should self-isolate please do so, both for your protection and that of others, and also apply social distancing at all times.

The Parish are available to provide general advice and, more importantly for those of

you who need assistance, they will take your details and arrange for one of our volunteers to assist. Please Contact the Parish Hall on 01534 481236 between 9.00am and 4.00pm or by eMail at StPeter@posp.gov.je.

After Hours there is an EMERGENCY MOBILE NUMBER 07797 787355 which will be held by one of our volunteers every day until 8.00pm including weekends.

Medical queries should not be directed to the Parish Hall or Emergency Mobile number, please call the CENTRAL GOVERNMENT CORONAVIRUS HELPLINE

ON 01534 445566.

If you are living alone and would like someone to contact you from time to time, our volunteers will be happy to do this. Simply contact the Parish Hall and provide

your details.

LIBERATION 75

It is with some regret that we have had to cancel all our Liberation 75 Celebrations.

I know many of you were looking forward to these events and I thank the team that had already undertaken considerable work towards the celebrations.

We will have to make next year even more special and, if later in the year and the Coronavirus outbreak is no longer a threat, perhaps we should consider a parish celebration when we are able to return to normality.

Parish Assemblies will only be held in an Emergency or for the election of new officers.

Only attend if you are required to do so.

Also, VERY IMPORTANTLY, SIT OR WALK AT LEAST TWO YARDS AWAY FROM ANYONE ELSE to prevent the spread of the virus.

All meetings of the Senior Citizens clubs are postponed until further notice.
