A presentation roadshow outlining proposals to reform the composition of the States is visiting all the Parish Halls. The Privileges and Procedures Committee has lodged radical proposals which would transform the way Islanders are represented politically.
The Committee's plans include scrapping the Islandwide Senatorial manifesto, removing Constables' automatic right to a seat in the chamber and electing 46 Members - down from the current 49 - across nine districts.
If given the go ahead, at the 2022 election each electoral district would be represented by five or six Deputies. And, in order to inform Islanders of the proposals ahead of their debate in the States, a presentation outlining the proposed reforms will be held in each parish.
"These proposals could bring about a major change in the way that our interests, as Parishioners, are represented in the States and we would like you come to this meeting to learn about them and then, if you wish, to express your views to our elected representatives."
