Pursuant to an Act of the Royal Court dated 23 July 2021, whereby it is ordered that an election for Procureur du Bien Public be held in the Parish of St. Peter, the 3-year term of office due to expire September 2024.

 2.      Elect a Vingtenier, for Vingtaine Coin Varin, for a period of three years.

3.      Elect an Officer du Connetable, for Grande Vingtaine for a period of three years.

4.      Elect an Officer du Connetable for Vingtaine Douet, for a period of three years.

5.      Elect a Vice-Chairperson for St Peters Youth & Community Centre as the current term of office having expired.

Rates (Jersey) Law 2005 – inspection of 2021 Rates List during coronavirus restrictions 

The Parish of St Peter Rates List is available for inspection from 17 May 2021 until 01 June 2021 inclusive: - 

  • Through the Parish website (https://services.parish.gov.je using the three-part code on the paper Notice of Assessment or access from your digital notice.
  • At the Parish Hall (during coronavirus restrictions access is by appointment only)

     Please call 481236 for further information.

  • Please read the Notices of Assessment carefully, for information on the procedure that needs to be followed should you wish to make a formal Review or Appeal, see the notes on the parish website www.parish.gov.je.

You can initially discuss any concerns with a member of the Assessment Committee on the following dates:

Tuesday 01 June                     7pm to 9pm

Wednesday 02 June                2pm to 4pm

Thursday 03 June                    2pm to 4pm

Please note the following regarding your Notice of Assessment:

  1. Your rates are calculated against the property you owned and/or occupied on the 1st January of this year and you are liable to pay for the whole of the sum regardless of whether or not you move within the year.  There is no allowance for apportionment of the account within the Law.
  2. All properties rented furnished are charged entirely to the Foncier (owner)
  3. The rate for all properties, whether occupied or not, is charged for the whole year.
  4. The number of quarters shown on the notice will only represent a monetary value once the rate per quarter has been agreed at the Assembly to be held at the Parish Hall on Tuesday 29 June at 7.00pm.

     

    If you think you may find it difficult to pay the full amount when you receive the demand in July, please contact the Parish Hall now and discuss arranging regular weekly or monthly payments.  This will prevent additional charges being added to your account due to a late payment surcharge and/or Petty Debt costs.
     

    If you are in receipt of Income Support this benefit contributes to both your rent and rates. 
     

    We accept payment for Parish Rates via the following methods:
  • Citypay Online – Using the scanning app. on your Rate Demand.
  • BACS
  • Standing Order (Payable monthly/weekly – please contact Parish Hall for details)

14/01/2021Reminder : All dog licences are now due for renewal by 31/01/2021

​All licences for dogs have to be renewed by the end of January. Any dogs renewed after this date will be at a fee of £20.00 per dog. Please go to the licences tab for an application form.

As the office is currently closed you can call to make a payment for your dog over the phone by card if you wish.

St Peter's Youth & Community Centre Management Committee are looking for a new Secretary & Treasurer. 

The committee meet bi monthly and provide leaderships and management of the centre. 

The Centre has a great team of staff that do the day to day delivery, with the committee supporting by providing good governance.

I thought it important to write to all Parishioners to reassure

you that both myself and the Parish Hall staff are here to

support you all during the Coronavirus outbreak, and to

assist with the challenges that may arise.

The Parish Hall will continue to operate but I would ask Parishioners to contact us by telephone or eMail, rather than visiting in person, in order to limit the potential to spread the virus. The office doors will remain closed from Monday 23rd March 2020 for the foreseeable future.

We have a group of volunteers who will assist with shopping, collection of prescriptions, a call to an elderly friend or relative, and other tasks. If you are unable to leave your home and do not have family or friends who can assist please contact us.

Always follow the latest Coronavirus advice from the Government of Jersey which will be released via the media. Alternatively you can obtain the latest advice on-line at gov.je/coronavirus

If you are told you should self-isolate please do so, both for your protection and that of others, and also apply social distancing at all times.

The Parish are available to provide general advice and, more importantly for those of

you who need assistance, they will take your details and arrange for one of our volunteers to assist. Please Contact the Parish Hall on 01534 481236 between 9.00am and 4.00pm or by eMail at StPeter@posp.gov.je.

LIBERATION 75

It is with some regret that we have had to cancel all our Liberation 75 Celebrations.

I know many of you were looking forward to these events and I thank the team that had already undertaken considerable work towards the celebrations.

We will have to make next year even more special and, if later in the year and the Coronavirus outbreak is no longer a threat, perhaps we should consider a parish celebration when we are able to return to normality.

Parish Assemblies will only be held in an Emergency or for the election of new officers.

Only attend if you are required to do so.

In line with the policy of the Church of England issued a few days ago, sadly there will not be any public services in Church for the foreseeable future.

The Parish Church of St Peter will be OPEN EVERY DAY FROM 10.00AM — 4.00PM for private prayer, meditation and reflection during this difficult and distressing period.

13/02/2020RATES (JERSEY) LAW 2005  ANNUAL RETURNS – NOTICE TO OWNERS   of land, houses, buildings and other structures

Each owner of land in the Parish has been served with a notice to make a Return of all land, houses, buildings and other structures owned at 1 January 2020. 

Any owner who has not received a notice and Return should contact the Connétable immediately.

By virtue of this Notice each owner shall be taken to have been served with a notice and it shall not be an excuse for non-compliance for an owner to show that a notice was not served on him.

Any person who has failed without reasonable cause to make a Return by 29 January 2020 is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding £1,000. A person charged with this offence may be dealt with at a Parish Hall Enquiry and may accept a fine not exceeding £200.

Transfer of land: where ownership of land is transferred, written notice of the transfer of land must be given by both the former owner and the new owner to the Connétable within seven days of the date of transfer. A person who fails to do this without reasonable cause is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding £10,000.

Change of name or address of owner or occupier: where an owner or occupier of property on 1 January 2020 changes his/her name and/or address the person must give notice to the Connétable within seven days of that change. A person who fails to do this without reasonable cause is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding £1,000.

A Parish Plan Committee has been formed to provide input into the Island Plan Review on behalf of the parish.

The Committee is endeavouring to identify sites that may be suitable to build affordable housing. Some sites have already been brought to the attention of the committee. Any parishioners who would be willing to have land they own re-zoned for affordable housing are requested to get in touch.

For land to be considered as part of this process please respond by Friday 27 September 2019. The committee may not be able to take forward sites identified after this date.

24/02/2017If you speak Jerriais, then please come forward

Jèrriais recording project

Hopefully many of our Jèrriais-speaking parishioners will be reading this! Some of you will be aware of the recent news that Dr. Mari Jones from Cambridge University, who is Reader in French Linguistics and Language Change (to give her formal title) is leading a project to record Jèrriais this spring/summer onwards. She has been a longstanding friend to Jersey with her great interest in Jèrriais, our native language, now only spoken by less than 5% of Jersey's population. Such has been her interest that she has learnt to speak Jèrriais, really quite fluently!

Starting in April, a team of recorders who themselves speak Jèrriais, want to hear from as many Jèrriais speakers as possible in order to record accent and vocabulary. There are  words and phrases used  in some parishes which are not  used in other parishes! This may not sound very important, but if not recorded by native speakers, they are lost to the printed word only, nowhere nearly as valuable as the spoken word!

So, if you would be willing to have your Jèrriais recorded – it can be speaking to a friend who also speaks Jèrriais or just yourself – please contact Colin Ireson at L'Office du Jèrriais on 449290 or home 726871 to register your interest. Recording can last 10 minutes or half an hour, it's up to you!
